Arts
The Arts are an important part of the MBS curriculum. This learning area is made up of Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. Maraetai Beach School offers a rich and engaging Arts curriculum which includes lessons with a Visual Art specialist (Year 2 and up). We also offer an extension Art programme for gifted artists. Our teachers also take a number of groups/clubs that run during lunchtimes. We have an amazing ukulele group and choir your child can join.
Our students are offered a number of opportunities in the area of dance and drama. We take part in the Howick and Pakuranga Dance Festival and Showquest. We hold a school production every two years.
Students can take part in music lessons offered by Musiqhub and drama and speech lessons offered by Head Held High. These are held during the school day.
We believe engagement with the arts stimulates critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Activities such as drawing, painting, music, and drama help children develop their cognitive abilities by encouraging them to think in abstract ways, make connections between different concepts, and express themselves creatively. Engaging in the arts can boost children's self-esteem and confidence. As they explore their creative abilities and see their ideas come to life, children gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work, which can have a positive impact on their overall self-confidence and self-worth.
